As a networking site, Linked In is focused for professional or business related matters. As of year 2011, more than 120 million users are registered under the site, spanning over 200 countries around the globe. The main purpose of the site is to allow professionals to maintain contact with people with whom they have a specific level of business related relationship. Users of the site are allowed to add people who are or aren't part of the site.

Though the processes involved in the site may seem complicated, it is actually incredibly user friendly. The main premise here is connection. Users can make use of a contact network which is made up of their connection as well as their second and third degree connection. With Linked In, better connection means better opportunities. There are many ways to increase connection on the site.

One, you can improve your visibility by adding an extensive connection on your list. Not only will this elevate you in search results but this will also add to your credibility as a business owner or professional.

Two, advertise yourself. Do this by improving or updating your profile. Add affiliations, education, previous work experiences and even recommendations from previous employers. This will do miracles for your image in the site. This will invite people to be your contact who are potentially your clients or employers as well.

Three, focus on your page rank. The higher your page rank in any search engine, especially Google, the better your chances of being included in search results. Just remember that page rank is based on credibility. By building on credibility, you can gradually increase on rank.

Fourth is to advertise yourself. No, you're not seeing double. Advertising yourself is repeated because it is crucial. Post links on your blog or website and connect it to your linked in account. This will show people that you have other activities in the Web which will increase your chances of being considered.
